Hi folks,

I'm Steve.

Welcome to Retirement Rides. First things first: you don't need to have quit your day job to join us here. I started practising about 15 years before I finally hung up the line gauge. I hope I can share some of what I've learned over that time and perhaps inspire you to get out there and see the world from a different perspective.

When I travel, I want to explore and to be educated. I want an adventure that inspires me to take a deep breath of life.

For those of you who don't know me yet, for most of my life I worked as a sports journalist at the Winnipeg Free Press, a daily newspaper in Canada.
Over the last 15 years or so of that 34-year career, I started to do some travel journalism. At first I wrote about great golf courses. Then I put down the sticks for some unspoiled walks — and eventually I went from two feel to two wheels.
I had always dreamed that when I retired I would go backpacking through Europe and Asia like some of my pals did after graduating from high school.
Who knows, maybe I will still do that.
But on my last day at work, my boss shook my hand, thanked me for my service and said "enjoy some great bike rides."
So here we are. Thanks for joining me — and I hope you also get out and enjoy a few great rides.
